One step closer to a Calm & Confident Birth...

After kicking of 2019 with a week long module on Anatomy & Biomechanics in Berlin with Noah Maze. I turned my attention back to the anatomy of pregnancy and birth. My all time favourite subject.

This month I travelled to the UK to undertake my Mindful Mamma Hypnobirthing Practitioner Certification, allowing me to bring the course attached to the UK Best Selling Hypnobirthing book by Sophie Fletcher over to Switzerland for all to benefit from its wisdom.

 

I personally whilst pregnant learnt Hypnobirthing and in seeing it's similarities to a lot of yoga techniques, decided to learn more about it as an aid to a natural birth. Hypnobirthing & yoga go hand in hand you see, they both focus on deep relaxation, mindfulness and breath control. 
 

I attended a one day Mindful Mamma Hypnobirthing course in the UK when I was 6 months pregnant. The one true reason for this... I was scared. Scared of giving birth, scared of the possible pain it could cause and scared because it was an unknown entity to me.

 

I was at first unsure as to whether a one day course would suffice in teaching me the techniques needed and practicing them with certainty, ready for the big day. However I came away from the course realising that no one person could guarentee the outcome of my birth but me. I had to do this for myself and in that realsiation & with the techniques I had learnt that day, came great empowerment. 

 

I could control the outcome of my birth. I got to decide how I would handle the birth. I had options. I had techniques and knowledge to allow for me to stay calm and confident throughout.

 

I spent the next 3 months listening to my deep relaxation and positive affirmation MP3's daily, practicing the breathing & self hypnosis techniques and teaching my partner how to be the supportive birth partner I knew he could be by helping me stay connected to every moment through self hypnosis anchoring.

 

When the day finally came, I was able to calmly stay home in my "safe space" until it was time to go to hospital. Once at the hospital, I was able to quickly take myself back into my deeply relaxed state using the self hypnosis techniques and when the labour progressed I was able to have the natural intervention free labour I had hoped for using the mindfulness, visulisation & breathing techniques from the course.

 

Mindful Mamma Hypnobirthing allowed me to have a labour which I look back on in awe. It was not the type of dramatic labour you see in the movie's but a mindful, calm and natural labour which is every womens given birth right.
